  1. This is Mosaic-AmiTCP 2.0 prerelease 3
  2.    
  3. Changes from the previous prerelease include:
  4.  
  5.     Mosaic/Prefs is now read properly for Sendmail and Editor.
  6.  
  7.     Improved understanding of the differences between
  8.     '/' and ':' in the program
  9.  
  10.     The default documentation directory, and the default home
  11.     page, now correctly point at www.omnipresence.com.
  12.  
  13.     The mailto handler now checks the contents of the Editor and
  14.     Sendmail variables somewhat more stringently.
  15.  
  16.     If an error occurs while storing a binary during a file
  17.     transfer, AMosaic now informs the user and aborts the
  18.     transfer (this includes "disk full", if you cancel the
  19.     AmigaDOS requester).
  20.  
  21.     You may now specify the telnet and rlogin programs to use.
  22.     The following precedence applies, with the first being the
  23.     primary. For telnet:
  24.  
  25.         Mosaic/Telnet    environment variable
  26.         Telnet        environment variable
  27.         Telnet        ENV:Mosaic/Prefs entry
  28.  
  29.     For Rlogin:
  30.  
  31.         Mosaic/Rlogin    environment variable

  35.     RLogin and Telnet should use the AS225 parameter convention:

  37.         rlogin [user username] hostname

  41.         telnet hostname [port]

  43.     Mike Smith put the code in for AmiTCP to act the same, when
  44.     rlogin or telnet are defined, and continue to use Napsaterm
  45.     when not. I've left it as is until there is a consensus on what it
  46.     should be for AmiTCP.

  48.     NOTE: when you are specifying external programs to run, PLEASE 
  49.     REMEMBER to specify full pathnames. AMosaic does _not_, repeat 
  50.     _not_, inherit the Workbench path on startup. This applies to
  51.     Sendmail, Editor, Telnet, Rlogin, and everything in your mailcap
  52.     file.

  72.     NOTE: AMosaic 2.0prelease1 fixed a bug with setting up REXX
  73.     menu items, and incorporated most of the AS225 fixes/enhancements
  74.     from AMosaic-AS225 beta5. It was also the first AmiTCP version to
  75.     be compiled with optimization.

  77. This is the comment from beta5 of AMosaic 1.4 for AS225 (14.1663).

  79. It has the following differences from the AmiTCP beta4 version:
  80.  
  81. 1) Mailto: is supported.
  82.  
  83.     Mailto: requires that a mail system is already installed. AMosaic
  84.     does not do the protocol handling internal to itself. It calls
  85.     an external editor given a filename. The editor must _NOT_ detach
  86.     itself from the provided CLI.
  87.  
  88.     If you've installed the mailto: script recently posted to the mailing
  89.     list, I've got no idea what happens.
  90.  
  91.     If the user changes text, AMosaic then calls an external mailer,
  92.     using the following format:
  93.  
  94.         program <mail
  95.  
  96.     The following configuration information is understood in Mosaic/prefs:
  97.  
  98.         Sendmail
  99.         Editor
  100.  
  101.     which should be paths to the relevant programs. I've tested sendmail
  102.     as the sendmail from AmigaUUCP 1.17b4 and SMTPpost from INetUtils 1.4.
  103.     For an editor, I've used DME and C:ED.

  105.     You may also specify
  106.  
  107.         Mosaic/Sendmail
  108.         Mosaic/Editor
  109.         Sendmail

  112.     as environment variables. They are checked in the above order. The
  113.     environment variables override entries in Mosaic/prefs.

  115. 2) Move files from T:
  116.  
  117.    You may now move temporary files from T:.
  118.  
  119.    AMosaic uses two different types of temporary files (don't ask, you
  120.    really don't want to know). For most files, set
  121.  
  122.         TempDir
  123.  
  124.    in your Mosaic/Prefs file to the desired directory.
  125.  
  126.    IT *MUST*, REPEAT *MUST* end in a '/' or a ':'.
  127.  
  128.    You may optionally set
  129.  
  130.         Mosaic/TempDir
  131.  
  132.    as an environment variable. If set, it overrides Mosaic/Prefs. It
  133.    also must end in a '/' for a ':'.
  134.  
  135.    For other temporary files, set the environment variable
  136.  
  137.         HOME
  138.  
  139.    to another temporary directory. If Mosaic/Tempdir is not set, either
  140.    in the environment or in the Mosaic/Prefs file, but HOME is, then
  141.    both types of temporary files will go to the directory specified by
  142.    the HOME variable.

  144.    IT *MUST*, REPEAT *MUST* end in a '/' or a ':'.

  146. 3) Environment checked even if Mosaic/Prefs doesn't exist.
  147.  
  148.    Older versions of AMosaic would not check for environment configuration
  149.    if the file ENV:Mosaic/Prefs did not exist.

  151. 4) Release telnet/rlogin/tn3270 memory
  152.  
  153.    Older versions of AMosaic did not release the memory used in telnet,
  154.    rlogin, or tn3270 sessions.
  155.  
  156. 5) More telnet/rlogin/tn3270 stack
  157.  
  158.    Older AS225 versions of AMosaic only applied 4000 bytes of stack for
  159.    these external programs. Now, 32,000 bytes are allocated.
  160.  
  161. 6) Some visual change
  162.  
  163.    Stephen Burstroem made some "minor gui change" to AmiTCP-beta4, which I
  164.    did not receive a source update for. I don't know what it is, and it
  165.    isn't in this version.
  166.  
  167. 7) Compiled with optimization
  168.  
  169.    The AS225 version is compiled with all SAS/C 6.55 optimization turned
  170.    on and at full force.
  171.  
  172. 8) Corrected a possible enforcer hit when accessing news.
  173.  
  174. 9) .ZIP is recognized properly.
  175.  
  176. 10) Several efficiency and portability source code changes
  177.  
  178. 11) External viewers are spawned differently, in ways which should prevent
  179.     them from causing AMosaic to crash
  180.  
  181. 12) Path names are dealt with properly, and a bad path will not cause
  182.     AMosaic to crash
  183.  
  184. 13) No more accesses to insti.physics.sunysb.edu -- all internal references
  185.     to AMosaic home pages, help pages, etc. now point to www.omnipresence.com.

  192. As AMosaic2.0 is almost ready and the missing features (localfiles,
  193. installer script and prefs editor) are of minor importance for the
  194. preformance we have decided to release the same version as our
  195. betatesters have been testing. This version is called AMosaic1.4beta
  196. and it is still a beta (although almost all bugs are gone).
  197. This is the AS225 version. An AmiTCP version is available. A DNET
  198. version is not. It should be ready for the final release.
  199.  
  200. This archive (or parts of it) MAY NOT be uploaded to aminet or any other
  201. place that distributes Amiga software (eg big BBS'es, CDrom collections etc.)
  202. The reason for this is simple: We don't want this version to be mistaken
  203. for the final one.

  211. Just run this version instead of the old one.
  212. It will read your old hotlist and use your old config file.

  214. There has been some additions to the env/prefs file:

  216. TitleToWindow  True/False    ;Show the document title in the window title
  217. Buttons        Text/Images/Images&Text    ; The look of the tool bar.
  218. IsindexToForm  True/False        ; Show an <isindex> markup tag as a form.

  220. Please note that the image cache is flushed every time the window is iconified.
  221. This is not a bug, it is a feature to avoid crashes when moving AMosaic
  222. between different screens.

  224. You may wish to make sure, when doing forms, that you have at least
  225. 32K stack.
